The Tree of Life

The Tree of Life burns bright in sight
To fight the blight; Big Brother's insecure rite
To right the wrong our forefathers have done
The Tree of Life grows toward the sun
But our brothers and sisters dig deeper and run
Toward our death we droids aid in the gloom
Stop the pain of our Mother Earth soon
Before we assure our descendant's doom
The Earth is not ours to do as we please
The human race is a deadly disease
The Tree of Life can save the human's souls
From the destruction of life that drilling foretold

Miguel Cabrera: Clutch Incarnate

Miguel Cabrera after hitting the ball deep

The sound of fans cheering consumed all else in Comerica Park, on Saturday, August 17th. That's the sound of Miguel Cabrera batting in the 9th inning, and the sound muffling the curses of the visiting team. That's the sound of a walk-off home run hit by arguably the best hitter in baseball, Miguel Cabrera. His stats say it all; .360 batting average (AL leader), 40 home runs (2nd in AL), 119 runs batted in (AL leader), and MLB leading 1.141 ops (On base percent + slugging percent). Unlike power hitters Chris Carter or Chris Davis, there is absolutely no chance of Miguel Cabrera striking out 200 times in a season.

It is obvious that Miguel Cabrera means more to his team than any other player on the field when you watch the Detroit Tigers play baseball. This guy is literally in scoring position when he is standing in the batter's box. One word sums up what fans need to know about Miguel Cabrera; clutch.

Putting the D in Detroit

Clip is property of MLB

Jose Iglesias' entrance into the Detroit Tigers organization was one marred by the PED controversy surrounding Detroit's former starting shortstop Jhonny Peralta. However, now that Iglesias has made Detroit his home, fans are warming up to the idea that the kid could be the defensive centerpiece of the Tigers' franchise. Detroit has been labeled an offensive powerhouse in the MLB for the last few seasons, and the addition of a defensive specialist in the infield has fans wondering what exactly is in store for their team this October.

Disc Golfers of Michigan's First Annual Summer Barbecue

Travis Newville, Admin of Disc Golfers of Michigan

August 10th, 2013 marked the first annual get together for the Facebook community Disc Golfers of Michigan. It was day full of family, barbecuing, swimming, and of course disc golfing. Disc golf is a great stress reliever, and is also a good workout. Socially, disc golfing is an excellent way to meet new people. The sport of disc golfing is one that is growing rapidly, and if the Disc Golfers of Michigan can help accommodate the growth of a great sport, then they will do what they can. Even if it means bribing their community with food.

Food really was an after-thought the day of the first annual Disc Golfers of Michigan Summer Barbecue. A group of five discers braved the wilds of the Reed Park disc golf course. Everybody shot well and had a good time, and nobody lost a disc.

The little get together was small for the first annual Disc Golfers of Michigan Summer Barbecue, but Ryan Minikey, creator of Disc Golfers of Michigan, is hoping that the event helps his Facebook community grow. Everyone is welcome to join the Disc Golfers of Michigan community, and always for free.

Tattoos Today

Pitbull Tattoo by Travis Newville. Inspired by Villalobos Rescue Center.

Tattoos have long been viewed as artistic representation of one's self. Most tattoos, however, are thought to represent something more specific, such as a feeling, or a turning point in one's life. Pitbull tattoos in the past have been associated with white-supremacist gang members or skinheads. While at the same time, a dove or swallow tattoo has been thought to represent love or peace. The real fun part of modern tattoos is that there are people with both of these polar opposites of image meanings tattooed on them. Yes, that is correct, you do not have to be a white-supremacist to get a tattoo of a pitbull.

Nowadays, some people are taking a more literal approach to getting a tattoo. Support. Everyone knows someone or something that could use their support. Whether it be getting a pitbull tattoo to show support a misconstrued breed, or getting a pink ribbon in remembrance for a loved one who suffered from breast cancer, more often of late tattoos are done in support of something rather then the ancient meanings behind the image. People even get tattoos in support of themselves. Everyone has their own agenda when it comes to their life, and tattoos are no different.

Tigers' Baseball Fueling Detroit's Economy

Detroit filing for chapter 9 bankruptcy protection was devastating for communities all across Michigan. Seeing the pride and joy of Michigan turned upside down by financial crisis after financial crisis was hard for local residents to handle. There are plans being discussed as to how Detroit will get out of this tremendous hole they find themselves in. One such plan is to sell the city's art collection, but some Detroit residents fear that selling part of the history of Detroit is not even an option. Others believe that Detroit could get a step ahead financially by selling their historical art pieces. The fact is nobody really knows how to get Detroit out of the financial mess they are in, and that is why they have had to file for chapter 9 bankruptcy protection in the first place.

Comerica Park, home of the Detroit Tigers

One area of interest still looms largely on the topic of making Detroit money, and that is sports. The Detroit Tigers are coming down the stretch on yet another World Series run, and this year the A.L. has given themselves home field advantage. Playing in October is a treat for baseball players for all of the hard work they have endeared throughout the season. Playing in October is also a great way for players to make their city money. According to Forbes.com, the Detroit Tigers organization was worth about $478 million in 2012. No chump change there. The first 4 games of the World Series alone net teams a profit of 25% of the revenue earned. There's no question that Detroit is depending on the Tigers making the World Series again, and earning their city a few extra million. Are the Detroit Tigers going to bail Detroit of of their financial crisis? No, absolutely not. But supporting Detroit's Tigers during their pennant race is the same as supporting Detroit city in its crisis.

Disc Golf: More than just a trend

Tee at hole 4 at Reed Park, Michigan

Disc golfing has been around for a long time, but it wasn't until the last decade or so that the past time began making headway as a sport and not just a hobby. In fact, the Professional Disc Golf Association is making sure that everyone has a chance to get to know this great game. Other non-profit community groups, such as Disc Golfers of Michigan, are solely dedicated to promoting the sport in their community, and encouraging people to get outside and try new things. You don't have to be a top tier athlete to play disc golf, but at the same time the sport is a great workout.

Socially, disc golf is an excellent game to play with friends and family. Hanging out at the disc course is a great way to make new friends, too. In fact, Disc Golf Scene, is a social networking website dedicated entirely to the game of disc golf. At Disc Golf Scene you can post scores, meet new players, add rival players, and even trade discs with other players at their Trading Post. Disc golfers are a tight knit community. Most disc golfers only play for the love of the game, and almost always show other "discers" respect on the course. Disc golf has come a long way from the days that people thought it just an odd trend. It is now a professional sport.

Resonance of Fate: Best RPG ever?

Resonance of Fate (End of Eternity) battle video from YouTube.

Resonance of Fate is hands down one of the most intriguing RPG's that I have ever had the pleasure of playing. The story, the battles, and the characters really bring this game to the top level of gameplay in any role playing game. Tri-Ace and SEGA came together to create Resonance of Fate, and they nailed it.

One of my personal favorite parts of the game is the weapon customization system. In Resonance of Fate, you are in complete control over how your guns respond. You can have guns geared towards charge acceleration, charge speed, bullet focus, or all three.

The above gun is one of my own, and as you can see it is mostly customized heavily with barrels and barrel adapters. This ensures that my gun has great bullet focus. The gun below is customized heavily with scopes, and doesn't have nearly the number of barrels. This ensures that the gun charges faster, and therefor does much more damage. When dual-wielded together, these guns are a deadly combination.

This game speaks to me, and many other JRPG lovers. although it is not like most JRPG's. In fact, this game is so unique that you just have to play it to understand it. I have 150+ hours of gameplay, and this game is still giving back to me. All in all, Resonance of Fate is a steampunk masterpiece.
